Bee hives can grow quickly causing you a headache, painful (sometimes serious) stings and occasional house damage. The even bigger problem is when people try to combat these critters themselves, which is NEVER a good idea. However, it is always good to have some education behind what type of bee problem you have so you can better explain it to an Extermatrim Exterminator.
Most people think of bees as the sterotypcial yellow and black striped insects, but there are actually several types of bees you could be deal with. Depending on the bee you will get varying levels of aggression, different forms of nesting and possible destruction to your home. Here is a brief explination of each type of bee as well as a matching photo:
Yellow Jacket
Yellow Jackets are your sterotypical yellow and black bees, and typically make their nests underground or in the cracks of your home. Call immediatly if you are dealing with yellow jackets, as you could disturb their nest while mowing. Yellow Jackets are also destructive creatures and may eat through your plaster/drywall while nesting in your home.
Hornet
Hornets are also bees you should be extremely cautious of because they are very agressive and can sting through clothing. A hornets nest looks like an upside down teardrop made of a paper material often found in shrubbery, trees or hanging from the side of a building.
Wasps
Wasps have extremely long legs, and long bodys. Wasp nests are umbrella shaped and typically found beneath ledges or eaves. Spot treatment is okay; however, with the commonality of wasp issues you may want to consider an overall treatment.
Bumble Bees
Bumble Bees are the most gentle of all bees. They are fairly big, look furry and are often found on flowers. Most people are quick to swat at them because they are so large, but these gentle giants will only sting you if you threaten them or disturb their nest. Bumble Bee nests occasionally causeĀ problems because they are disorganized and made in dry grass clippings or other loose, fluffy material and could be easily accidently stepped on.
If you have a bee problem, DO NOT attempt to take care of it yourself. Please call Extermatrim Exterminating at 800-620-PESTĀ or visit the Extermatrim Exterminating website.
